El Gouna

Best time: March to May and September to November for warm days and steady wind; summer is hot but is prime kitesurfing season.

El Gouna is a purpose-built Red Sea resort town 25 km north of Hurghada, spread across islands and turquoise lagoons linked by bridges and canals — often called the Venice of the Red Sea. It is Egypt's most polished beach destination: walkable, spotlessly maintained, and home to one of the world's great kitesurfing scenes thanks to near-constant wind.

🎯Things to do & experiences — El Gouna

🎈Learn kitesurfing

With flat, waist-deep lagoon water and wind nearly every day, El Gouna is one of the world's easiest places to learn. Schools on Mangroovy Beach offer courses from a first 2-hour lesson to full independent-rider certifications.

🎈Dive and snorkel the Straits of Gubal

Boats from El Gouna reach some of the northern Red Sea's best diving: the wrecks of Abu Nuhas (Giannis D, Carnatic), Sha'ab Abu Nuhas reefs and the marine life of the straits — often with noticeably fewer boats than Hurghada's departures.

🎈Play golf by the lagoons

An 18-hole championship course winding between lagoons and desert hills — one of very few true golf destinations on the Red Sea, with clubhouse dining overlooking the greens.

🎈Try the cable park

Sliders Cable Park lets you wakeboard and waterski without a boat — a fun half-hour loop over the lagoon that suits complete beginners and families.

🍴Where & what to eat — El Gouna

El Gouna has some of the best dining on the Egyptian Red Sea: seafood and Italian around Abu Tig Marina, grills and international cuisine downtown, and beach clubs on Zeytouna. Unlike most of Egypt, nearly all restaurants serve alcohol.
